Café 1842 is located in a historic building in the heart of Zurich. In 1842, the Eberle family opened a bakery which would later become the “Schober Confiserie”. In 1874, the confectioner Theodor Schober-Wolber acquired the building and founded the now famous café in the new baroque style. In March 2019, 1842 is one of seven restaurants of the foundation. the “Arbeitskette” foundation started running the café and bakery in the Schober house. Since 1977 the foundation is committed to facilitating the integration of mentally challenged and physically impaired adolescents and adults into the staff.
